A few days ago President Trump fired the intelligence community’s Inspector General (IG) Michael Atkinson who alerted Congress a whistle-blower complainant regarding Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s president that led to his impeachment. He was following the law that required this action.
But President Trump does not care for any actions that conflict with his interests. In a previous post I mentioned two motives:
- Revenge against the man who put the law above Trump’s interest
- Continuing the attack on the intelligence community
But now that he has sacked another IG and attacked a third, I think a pattern is emerging.
My guess is that it is related to his dislike of oversight put into the 2 billion dollar COVID-19 stimulus bill to gain support of Democrats.
One firing has 3 upsides for the President (and 3 downsides for the American public). Call it Trump’s threefer.
