An Inspector General threefer

I was reading about President Trump’s latest firing of an Inspector General (IG) when part of the article seemed especially odd. It caught my eye as this firing may be part of a pattern.

A few days ago he fired the IG of the intelligence community. See President Trump’s revenge and continuing attack on intelligence. I though this was just revenge for following the law even thought it was against the President’s interests. And the firing was a twofer in that it also served as part of his attack on the intelligence community. Now it appear it may be part of a threefer.

The word threefer is not used very much. But if twofer means two for one. Threefer clearly means three fer one. I like it much better than hat trick which also refers to three but not usually at at onetime.

Is there a general attack on IGs for a third reason?

What caught my eye in the Post article was a reference to a tweet criticizing a third IG who released a report on hospital shortages of supplies during this COVID-19 crisis.

On Tuesday President Trump tweeted:

Why didn’t the I.G., who spent 8 years with the Obama Administration (Did she Report on the failed H1N1 Swine Flu debacle where 17,000 people died?), want to talk to the Admirals, Generals, V.P. & others in charge, before doing her report, Another Fake Dossier!

I’m not quite sure exactly what he meant since I have not seen that report if it does exist) but it was definitely an indication he was not happy with the HHS IG.

By the way the US count on deaths is now over 12,000 and increasing rapidly.  It looks like there will tens of thousand more, perhaps hundreds of thousands and President Trump is constantly reminding of his his success in handling this pandemic.

So we have 2 IGs fired in a few days and a third attacked by Twitter.  Is this a pattern?
